POLICE REPORTS:  MARCH 2024


   

Reports received by the police departments in Price County for the month have been condensed and summarized.

PRICE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE

3-1-2024:  A Phillips woman reported a goat and sheep running on Old Hwy. 13 toward State Hwy. 13.

3-1-2024:  An Ogema woman called to report a chimney fire and stated her whole house was full of smoke.

3-1-2024:  A Catawba man rolled his truck and was unsure if he could get out.

3-2-2024:  A 911 call was received with several people yelling in Spanish.  Dispatch could not understand what was happening.  The female was able to state there were no injuries.  Police responded.

3-3-2024:  A Kennan man reported a red Chevrolet tow truck crossed the center line toward his vehicle.  The caller stated he used to work for the man he believed was driving the truck, and he felt the driver swerved into his lane intentionally.

3-5-2024:  A Park Falls man requested extra patrol near a bar as vehicles do burn-outs and ATVS and UTVS drive at high rates of speed after being at the bar.  He stated the bar owners' 12-year-old child regularly drives an unregistered ATV on the road.

3-6-2024:  A Prentice woman reported her son was being harassed by his ex-girlfriend.  It was ongoing but now she was posting nude body parts.  The woman had spoken to the school's principal and the mother of the girl, but since talking to the girl's mother, the harassment had gotten worse.

3-7-2024:  A Fifield woman reported a blue metal rake with a wooden handle had been stolen from her property.  She was more concerned about someone being on her property than the rake itself.

3-7-2024:  A Park Falls man requested an ambulance because someone hit him over the head and arm with a pool stick.

3-8-2024:  A Phillips man reported he had fence and posts that were stolen.  He knew the fence was there when he mowed the lawn last fall.  A woman at the residence added that a gold watch and money were taken out of a lock box from within the home, but the doors were locked.

3-8-2024:  A Prentice School District principal reported a student making several threats to staff.  He threatened to kick and bash in a female staff member's face and threatened a male teacher.

3-9-2024:  A Catawba man reported receiving a cashier's check from a man who said he lived in Florida and wanted to purchase a grill that the Catawba man had listed on Craigslist for $550.  However, the check was made out for $3,600.  He called the bank and found the account had insufficient funds.  The man was advised to shred the check as it was a scam.

3-9-2024:  A Catawba woman stated individuals were throwing rocks at her barn one night.  The night prior they had a drone and were flying it toward the house to look in the windows.

3-12-2024:  A Park Falls man reported four guns were missing from his residence.  He stated the only person who had been at his residence since the last time they were seen was his soon to be ex-wife.

3-12-2024:  A Phillips woman reported someone taped signs on her door that stated she was a thief and was stealing WiFi.

3-13-2024:  A Phillips man reported his girlfriend was highly intoxicated, plus she threw coffee cups at him and broke a window.  The man locked himself in a bathroom, and the woman was kicking and banging on the door.  He stated he needed police to respond.

3-14-2024:  The Chequamegon School District administrator called to report he received information that the building on the school forest property had a broken window.

3-14-2024:  A supervisor from the Town of Elk reported four signs and their brackets were missing at the intersection of Danish Settlement Road and Carpenter Creek Road.  However, the signposts were still there.

3-14-2024:  A woman reported a man walked out of a store in Prentice without paying for items. She described the man as six feet tall with blue eyes, glasses, and short brown hair.

3-15-2024:  A Phillips man reported a grass fire at his residence.  Garbage was being burned, and a piece fell out and ignited the grass.  No structures were at risk, but the fire was close to the woods.

3-16-2024:  A Phillips woman reported vandalism in the Township of Worcester at her property.  After being away from her residence, she returned to find her garbage can was damaged and tied to the end of a lifting bar that blocked her driveway.  The bar had been raised and the locking mechanism was broken.  The woman stated a post had also been removed.

3-16-2024:  A woman reported about a dozen trees being run over on her property in the Township of Knox.  She remembered the trees being intact when she was there about a month ago.

3-17-2024:  A trailer park owner called stating a tenant said a man broke into one of the trailers he owns.  He was told a man broke into a recently vacated trailer and then did laundry, stayed overnight, and was telling the neighbors he was the new tenant even though he is not.

3-20-2024:  A Park Falls man believed the telephone company was replacing poles earlier and left several poles stacked on his property.  He noticed two males cutting the poles apart and made contact with them, but it did not go well.  The older of the two left right away, but the younger male refused to leave at first.  He recognized the younger male and made contact with his father.

3-20-2024:  A Prentice woman reported someone broke her wind chimes.

3-21-2024:  A Kennan resident reported he may have been scammed as a person called stating they were from Dish Network and asked to do a $300 upgrade.

3-21-2024:  A Prentice man reported being a victim of a scam.  He paid $300 for a computer monitoring service but then asked to be reimbursed for it.  The company stated they made a mistake and reimbursed him $37,000.  They asked for $15,000 and advised the man not to report it to his bank but to say he was giving the money to a friend.  The person stated they would collect the money at his house at 6 p.m.

3-24-2024:  A one-vehicle roll-over accident occurred.  The driver was stuck in the vehicle for a short time.  Once out, he was complaining of neck pain.

My Price County did not receive the rest of the Price County Sheriff's Office's reports from March at the time of publication.  Those reports will be published with next month's reports.

PHILLIPS POLICE DEPARTMENT

3-1-2024:  Received a report from a local school district about inappropriate behavior by a juvenile male in the school bathroom. A school official and an officer investigated the incident. The involved student was disciplined within the school.

3-1-2024:  Received a report from a local school about an incident that occurred earlier in the week off school grounds but involved several students.  An officer and school officials investigated the incident and discovered inappropriate images had been sent using an electronic communication device.  A further investigation will be conducted.

3-1-2024:  Dispatch indicated they received a zoning complaint in regard to the ongoing removal of a building on Depot Road.  Officer spoke with the caller and then spoke with the city attorney. The city attorney advised the officer that no further action was needed.

3-1-2024:  Assisted Price County Sheriff's Department with a two-vehicle accident involving a gray Ford Maverick and a silver Ford Fiesta just south of the City of Phillips on Hwy. 13 near Hilly Haven Lane.  There were no reported injuries.

3-9-2024:  Notified of a UTV stuck on the snowmobile trail along STH 13.  An officer responded and identified the driver.  A wrecker service was contacted and the UTV was removed.

3-9-2024:  Received a report of a neighbor dispute on South Lake Avenue.  An officer met with both neighbors and advised both to not have any contact to avoid future issues.  Both agreed.

3-11-2024:  Received information from a citizen of a telephone box that was backed into by a pickup truck.  The complainant advised the pickup truck left the scene and did not know how much damage was done to the telephone box.  An officer contacted the telephone company to report the incident and was advised the box is not active.

3-12-2024:  Advised by a local school district of a physical altercation involving several juvenile female students.  An officer and a representative from the school investigated the incident.  In addition to school consequences, two students were issued citations, and one student was referred to the Price County Human Services Department.

3-12-2024:  Issued a courtesy violation notice to a residence on Flambeau Avenue that had 16 old tires piled up behind the garage and two appliances sitting behind a camper.  The owner was given 48 hours to remove the tires and appliances or be given a citation along with restitution for cost of removal.

3-13-2024:  Worked with the Price County Sheriff's Department on a drug search warrant in the City of Phillips.  As a result, a adult male and female were arrested for possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia and were held at the Price County Jail.

3-14-2024:  Received a phone call from a male individual who stated his wife had taken the registration plates off his vehicle at a local gas station in the City of Phillips.  An officer spoke with an employee of the gas station who stated the male individual did not have contact with his wife as he is not supposed to per a Price County bond, and the female had taken the plates off the vehicle.  The vehicle is marital property, and no law violation occurred.

3-18-2024:  Requested by the School District of Phillips to conduct a K9 sniff of the school district.  Multiple law enforcement agencies responded.  An officer located drug paraphernalia in a vehicle and will be referring charges to the Price County District Attorney's Office for drug paraphernalia.

3-18-2024:  Advised by a local school of a juvenile female who struck another juvenile female. The school placed the offending student on out-of-school suspension for one day.

3-19-2024:  Received information of drug activity in the City of Phillips.  Phillips Police, along with the assistance of the Price County Drug Officer, recovered drugs and paraphernalia in the City of Phillips

3-21-2024:  Notified by a student from a local school of an item of contraband found in a heating vent in the school's locker room.  A school representative and an officer recovered the item.  The item was disposed of.

3-22-2024:  Observed a male individual going into a vacant building on North Lake Avenue. An officer spoke with the male individual and was advised he had recently purchased the building and was currently remodeling it.  The officer obtained the male individual's information and cleared from the building.

3-26-2024:  Received a complaint from the Phillips Department of Public Works Director of two windows that were damaged at the old skating rink building.  An officer arrived, took photographs, and conducted interviews.

3-29-2024:  Received a Nixle Tip involving a female individual buying vape pens for her juvenile children and driving intoxicated in the City of Phillips.

3-31-2024:  Notified of an incident that occurred at a bar in Taylor County, and the individual involved in the incident possibly went to Price County.  Price County deputies located the individuals involved in the incident just outside of the City of Phillips and advised there were multiple intoxicated individuals there.  An officer went out to the location and stood by while Price County deputies collected statements from the individuals involved in the incident.

PARK FALLS POLICE DEPARTMENT

3-1-2024:  An officer located a woman who appeared to have fallen outside of a bar.  The female was intoxicated but not hurt.  The officer drove her down the street to her home.

3-5-2024:  Responded regarding a report of suspected child abuse.  Officers conducted an investigation and contacted Price County Human Services.

3-7-2024: Responded to a call at a bar for a report of a male subject striking another individual with a pool cue.  One male was arrested for battery and disorderly conduct.

3-7-2024:  A person reported being scammed out of $1,590 while trying to sell a couch.

3-7-2024:  Received a complaint of an ATV operating in a reckless manner and off the ATV route.  An officer was able to locate the ATV which was being operated by a 13-year-old juvenile.  An officer remained with the juvenile until parents arrived to give the juvenile a ride home.  Citations and/or warnings were to be issued.

3-10-2024: Officers gained information that the person had a warrant out of Price County. Officers located the individual at a bar in Park Falls.  He stated he did not meet with probation and parole as directed because his mother has Alzheimer's.  Police placed him in custody.  The warrant was confirmed, and he was transported to the Price County Sheriff's Department.

3-11-2024:  Report of possible assault that occurred within the city, but the victim refused to cooperate.

3-11-2024:  Received a phone call from Chequamegon Middle School’s principal reporting a fight among 7th graders that appeared to be a possible fight club.  The fight was recorded and posted to social media, and a concerned parent notified the school.  The parents of students involved were contacted.

3-11-2024:  Report of a physical altercation between two students that occurred on 3-8-2024.  The parties requested to press charges against each other.  A report was to be sent to the Price County District Attorney and Price County Human Services.

3-12-2024:  A complain was received regarding decomposing deer parts and a box of bones in the yard of a resident.  There was an accompanying odor due to the situation.

3-13-2024:  A semi tractor trailer hit the mill’s overhead bridge.

3-14-2024: Responded to a dog at large call.  The dog was captured and not actively running around when the officer arrived.  The officer identified the dog owner who had a warrant out of Price County.  The person was taken into custody and had to pay at the Park Falls Police Department.  The officer then dropped the person back off at his place of work.

3-14-2024:  A vape was taken from a student at the Chequamegon School District.  A citation was to be issued.

3-14-2024: The principal of the grade school wanted an officer to talk with two students in 3rd grade that were caught stealing.

3-16-2024: There was a fuel spill at a gas station.  The Park Falls Fire Department arrived and assisted with spreading absorbent on the spill.

3-19-2024:  Family Dollar wanted an officer to stand by for multiple people walking out of the store with items.  However, an officer explained to the clerk that the police are not loss prevention agents and could not stay at the store as other calls were pending.  The officer stated they could respond to individual theft complaints, of which at least two were then reported.  Read more.

3-20-2024:  One vehicle crashed into the gas pump canopy post at a gas station.  There were no injuries.

3-21-2024:  An officer took a report from a concerned parent of a student being touched inappropriately by another student at Chequamegon Elementary School.

3-23-2024:  Officers attempted to locate one male suspect at a residence who had a warrant for his arrest.  Upon arrival, officers observed the man inside the residence.  The man was arrested after attempting to flee outside the back door of the residence.

3-26-2024:  An officer assisted a Price County deputy with a complaint of an 18-year-old having sex with a 14-year-old.

3-30-2024:  An officer conducted a traffic stop where a driver was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and drug paraphernalia.

3-31-2024: An officer received a call from a man stating he was at St. Anthony's playground and an adult woman took money out of his granddaughter's hand.  The man stated the police better do something about it.  Officers responded and talked to both parties.
